Joan A. Male Family Support Center contracts with Erie County Department of Social Services (ECDSS) to provide preventive services to families to ensure the safety of their children, avert a family breakdown that will result in out-of-home placement and expedite the reunification of families whose child(ren) have been placed in foster care.
ASAP Intensive Home-Based Services
This specialized program serves substance abusing families identified by ECDSS as being in severe crisis and at immediate risk of out-of-home placement of their children. Based on the nationally recognized Home Builders Model, intervention is short-term (12 to 15 weeks) and provides 24-hour response to families. The social worker is on 24-hour call to families via phone and face-to-face contact. The social worker carries only two cases at a time to ensure that each family receives at least 12 to 15 hours of face-to-face service every week, and is seen 7 days a week.
Intensive Home-Based Services (IHBS)
This shorter term, intensive intervention (6 – 8 weeks) also provides 24-hour response to families identified by ECDSS as being in severe crisis and at immediate risk of out-of-home placement of their children. The social worker carries only two cases at a time to ensure that each family receives at least 10 to 12 hours of face-to-face service per week and is seen 7 days a week.
Traditional Preventive Services
This comprehensive, family-centered program provides clinical, supportive, and concrete services to address individual needs of families and children who are in crisis and at risk of out-of-home placement. A variety of group and therapeutic activities enhance the home-based services. Families receive 2–4 hours of one-to-one services per week for 6 to 12 months. Program staff are available 24 hours a day, every day, via the Parent Help-Line (892-2172).
